AL WASL TOWER: THE HIGHEST CERAMIC FAÇADE IN THE WORLD

We are used to hearing news about massive new projects from Dubai. Unfortunately, these projects normally don’t use ceramic building materials. Instead they usually involve concrete, glass and steel. Although there are no brick or tile factories in the United Arab Emirates due to the lack of clay in the country, we have heard that this skyscraper measuring 302 metres with 63 floors will feature something very uncharacteristic in Dubai: the entire façade will be covered with glazed ceramic tile.

The tiles used in the Al Wasl Tower, which is scheduled to open next year, will not simply be for show but will serve a functional purpose: thanks to the tower’s angle of placement and its fin shape, the tiles will provide the necessary shade in the daytime to the immediate vicinity, while filtering natural light into the tower. Each tile will include a light so that at night the entire façade can be programmed to create a light show.

The Al Wasl Tower is hard proof that ceramic building materials also have a place in the largest and most avant-garde buildings, even in a city as alien to ceramics as Dubai.

The Al Wasl Tower is being built a short distance from the Burj Khalifa, the tallest tower in the world.

CONCLUSIONS FROM THE CERAMABRICKTECH 2020 FAIR

BERALMAR participated in the CERAMBRICKTECH fair in Moscow (Russia) in late January.

Despite the valuable contacts and meetings that the BERALMAR delegation had during the event, it must be said that it has been the weakest edition of recent years in terms of visitor numbers.

The Russian market has been in a somewhat lethargic state for several years, since the fall of the ruble at the end of 2014. However, there is no lack of willingness nor initiatives to undertake new projects.

We hope that the situation will improve in Russia so we can take up the many projects that have been under discussion for some time, in a market where BERALMAR is a familiar name.

We will surely meet again in Moscow in the next edition!

CONCLUSIONS FROM THE UZBUILD FAIR 2020

BERALMAR participated in the UZBUILD fair that took place between 25 and 28 February in Tashkent (Uzbekistan).

The fair was less well attended than in 2019, but the BERALMAR delegation still received a good number of very interesting visits.

UZBEKISTAN and Central Asia in general is a very important region for BERALMAR, where in recent years the company has supplied 3 very significant complete plant projects:

  • CERAMIC BRICKS (Samarkand, Uzbekistan): complete plant producing 250 tonnes/day of blocks.
  • ASTANA CERAMICS (Astana, Kazakhstan): complete plant producing 350 tonnes/day of blocks.
  • DÖWLETI DOWREN (Lebap region, Turkmenistan): complete plant producing 550 tonnes/day of blocks and face bricks.
We hope that the contacts made will prove fruitful and that BERALMAR will be able to expand its number of projects in this region in the near future.
